A State of Mind | Just Because

OK….gotta admit, this below freezing weather in Denver is getting under my skin.  I’m a summer baby through and through….I can’t stand the cold!  So as I sat here grumbling and sipping hot coffee to warm me up, and – sadly – COMPLAINING…I decided that I needed to snap out of it.  G. is home from school today, I’m not going to the Loft…it is time to PLAY!  Go away grumbles – you aren’t welcome here today!flower

Newborn of the Week | Levi

Well, yes, you might remember little Levi from my “first newborn of the year” post….but he is way way too cute not to feature more of his gorgeous little face!  He was in the studio the other day with mommy and daddy for their ordering session and, if you can stand it, he’s gotten EVEN CUTER!  Seriously, there must be something in the Denver water….  Love his squishiness:

There are so many reasons I love being a Mom – way too many to ever list – and so many ways that my little man makes me proud…but THIS, well, honestly…made me bawl my eyes out.

He makes my heart sing!!

Local Love | Lemongrass Spa

One of my goals this year was to start a “Local Love” category – where I highlight local companies, people, products, etc. that I LOVE.  So, for the first Local Love – my absolute FAVORITE spa products ever………Lemongrass Spa.  Lemongrass Spa  is a Colorado Company that produces fresh, handmade, natural skin treats!   The company is “committed to providing the safest skin care available. The fragrances are phthalate-free, colorants are from natural sources and our essential oils are organically grown from farms around the world.  The products do not contain any sodium laureth sulfate, lead, parabens, alcohol, petroleum-based ingredients or phthalates. The packaging labels are made from recycled corn starch and our containers and boxes are recyclable and reusable.”  Better yet…..the products are absolutely LUSCIOUS!  Seriously addictive.  We use the baby products at the Loft because I know, beyond a doubt, that they are safe for our tiny client’s skin.  I’m never worried about allergies and fragrance reactions when I use or offer them to my mommies.

Jill Breheny is my consultant (and can give you information on becoming a consultant yourself if you are interested) and you can reach her at lemongrassjill@gmail.com – or you can shop at www.OurLemongrassSpa.com/Jill

LOVE…..much LOVE…..to Lemongrass – for your products and all that you do to help keep it natural!

Newborn(s) of the week | Alexandra & Madeleine

Squishy, snuggly, bunches of love x2!!  Alexandra & Madeleine came to see me days after being released from the NICU!  They are both doing FABULOUS, by the way.  I’ve been photographing big brother Sebastian for a couple of years now, and was delighted to hear that there were little bundles on their way to meet him.    My favorite story, by far, from this session is mom telling me that when they held baby #2 up for her to see her reaction was “That’s not the same baby?” – LOL.  She says she was so out of  it by then that she just thought they were showing her the same baby again!!    I cannot wait to spend the next year photographing these two.

Welcome to the world, little ladies.

Sundays | Personal

Sundays…I love them!  Sundays mean a whole day with my kiddo, a day to recharge, a day to play, and today, a day to BAKE!  We started off this morning making a batch of DELICIOUS (yes, I broke my “eat clean” diet just a bit — sssshhhhhh) pumpkin muffins with cream cheese icing.  G. always has so much fun mixing the batter and scooping it out.  Yes, it generally winds up a bit messy massive disaster, but it is so worth it.  These are the moments I hope I never forget!

Thank You All | 2010 Contemporary Expressions Clients ROCKED

Yippee – the “box guy” (as G. calls Mr. UPS) arrived at my house yesterday with a wonderful package – our 2010 Thank You gifts for our amazing clients!  I can’t wait for everyone to get their calendars.  It’s always a fun project putting our thank you’s together in January – looking back through all of the previous year’s images – seeing how much these babies have grown since we first started photographing them.  It makes my heart happy to know that we helped capture so many memories last year, and I’m honored that so many of you chose US for this amazing opportunity.  Just a couple more things to add to these envelopes (we can’t show you the whole surprise now can we) and they are off to the Post Office!!!  Thank you again, to all of our wonderful 2010 clients, for making it another year to remember!!

Strength | Just Because

I absolutely LOVE Real Simple magazine….LOVE.  The recipes, the organizing tips, the articles….seriously, I’m addicted to everything about this publication.  Silly as it sounds, one of my favorite parts of the magazine is the “thoughts” page in each issue – a simple white page, photo inset, and quote (see, I’m also an avid collector of quotes).  I love both the simplicity and the power of these layouts.  So, I’m totally “borrowing” the idea — LOL.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

Loft Life | Behind the Scenes

I kept thinking, last year, that it would be really fun to do a “behind the scenes” gallery – and (obviously) never got around to it.  See, that goes back to my first post of the year….those resolutions that never happened.  Well, there’s no time like the present, right.  You see, during sessions, I inevitably get “those shots”  – you know, the silly faces, the peeing babies, the nose picking – shots that aren’t necessarily keepers for mom and dad (although, sometimes they are!!) but that I love because they show what really happens at photo sessions.  So, to kick off our, hopefully recurring, behind the scenes series, we have the lovely Kendall.  I called Kendall’s mommy to ask if we could use her for our Full of Love promotion shots.  This little miss honestly had all four of us belly laughing with her expressions.  Here are a few of my favorite outtakes from the shoot…this first one CRACKS ME UP!!!!
